ClariVein® is one of the newest vein procedures. This FDA approved therapy is used to treat incompetent greater saphenous, short saphenous, their tributaries and perforator veins. A small needle is used to numb the skin. Then a wire is placed inside the dysfunctional vein under ultrasound guidance. Often this can be done without any incisions. The wire is connected to a hand-held device that rotates the wire inside the vein and displaces the blood. A solution is injected into the vein and as the wire is removed the solution closes the vein down. The blood moves to better and more competent veins. The procedure can be performed in less than 15 minutes and the machine is on for less than 3 minutes. The patient can return to most normal activities. There is a 99% success rate with the procedure.
